Twelve months. Twelve winning redesigns.
Since Superhero of the Month started, everything thus far has been building up to this. To cap off an amazing year of redesigns, each month's winner is being pitted against one another in a battle royale showdown to determine who will be the Superhero of the Year.
For this contest, we have three sponsors, Dr. Volt's Comics, Scott's Comics, and Big Shiny Robot!, and is being presented in conjunction with Girls Read Comics, Too.
Judging criteria is a little different this time around. Imagine you don't pick up a comic for ten years. What could happen? I don't know...after 70 years in a wheelchair, Marvel decides Professor X can walk again or something. (Crazy, right?! Right...?) During this time, there's no Previews, no IGN -- nothing to tie you into the world of comics for a decade. After your imposed hiatus, you decide to check them out again. You walk into a comic book store, and the redesigns that have won are the costumes that greet you.
The point of a redesign is to make the character recognizable, even though they're wearing something different. With that in mind, does Robin still look like Robin? Does X-23 remind you of the Laura Kinney you know and love?
Using that criteria, we will announce the winner and prizes our sponsors are putting up on November 30, at a time to be determined. In me meantime, stay tuned to Superhero of the Month for redesigns we've had sent in. Feel free to send us any redesigns you've done; we'll be posting them between now and November 30!
