Congratulations Felipe Fialho, winner of the Superhero of the Month & Batman-News.com Batman redesign contest! Felipe is auto-entered into November's soon to be revealed contest, and has the option of joining us in December's judging!
Your judges for this contest are Superhero of the Month staff, Alex and Mitch, Batman-News.com's founder, Chris, and Ross Radke, who seems to quickly be turning into SHotM's 5th Beatle.
Alex: First let me say, I like my Batman dressed in black. It always bothers me when you see "the Dark Knight" dressed in bright blue and gray, while Nightwing and Batwoman have predominantly black suits. So this is more in line with what I think of when I think "the Dark Knight".
I like the minimalist red around the bat logo, and the eyes fit with Bruce's "strike fear into their hearts" mentality. The Tengu mask is brilliant, and absolutely something I could see Bruce, as opposed to Dick or Terry, adopting. It's just plain scary -- the way Batman should be.
Mitch: I think my favorite thing about this is the chest emblem. Subtle, classic bat with red edge lighting? Beautiful. Actually, there are a lot of entries that used red and black, but this one does it best. Red is a strong, bold color, and you have to be careful not to overwhelm the other colors. But here everything is subtle and in just the right spots. Normally I'm not a fan of the stylized bat faces, but this one has a samurai feel.
Chris: Batman is supposed to strike fear into the hearts of the criminals he fights, and I definitely wouldn't want to come face to face with this Batman in a dark alley!
Ross: I really like the skull-bat mask and red eyes, although I'd go for longer ears. The red outline for the bat symbol is cool. The belt stands out too much. Overall, I think this is a costume that works and would look great in a comic action scene - the realism isn't necessary. I'd almost like to see this in a more cartoony style. The problem I had is that I don't see this as something Bruce Wayne would wear. It's not "Zorro" enough.
Check out the runners up after the jump!
