Entries for the Avengers contest were limited to one submission per contestant, but that didn't stop some Superhero of the Month contributors from going the extra mile. Here is their additional work:
"The Vision: I was aiming at the strong and streamlined look he sported in the Anti-Vision body back in the 90's while trying to incorporate a 'V' in the design. I pushed the redesign further by incorporating the barefoot look from his white body. Even as a 'synthezoid', he may need to cover up, but he shouldn't need boots, or gloves, for that matter.
"Wonder Man: To me, Wonder Man has always had pretty gaudy costumes. This is my effort at making him look cool. I brought back the hip propulsion packs because I thought they were a neat and unique concept. They are ion powered by him and can be used offensively as guns.
"Tigra: I was looking at pictures of actual tigers to really nail down the look of her stripes and realized that if she could develop stripes and even a tail, she would develop the actual coloring and markings of a tiger. So I added the white fur and changed the markings on her face to more closely resemble that of a tiger's. I then pushed it further with ears that ever so slightly peak out of her hair.
"Black Knight: While wanting to make him armored, I wanted to keep it minimal. In order to make him look like the perfect balance of science and magic, I focused on making the armor look modern but medieval inspired. He wields the Ebony Blade as well as an energy shield that also doubles as an additional blade.
"Sersi: I found inspiration for this from Dejah Thoris' gown in the John Carter movie. I also basically took the crisscrossed bands from her latest costume and went crazy with it."
"The man for when things get odd, The Merc with the Mouth, Your friendly neighborhood web-slinger, The best at what he does, The man without fear, The Wakandaan Ambassador, The SHIELD AGENT turned hero that lost her powers and became a consultant and then got her powers back, The marksman, The billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, The Super Soldier, The demigod of thunder, The incredible one up to your army, The Russian assassin, The Hero for hire, The martial artists, The bounty hunter, The mystery, The vigilante, And last but not least the former Captain America replacement that became the director of SHIELD."
Editor's Note: Sarah didn't leave any thoughts on her submission, but we enjoyed her minimalist take on the Avengers!
"My second team is inspired about the second class citizenship that the Avengers impose on the X-Men whenever they disagree with the way Cap has things planned out. These mutants, though immensely powerful in different ways, and have been inducted into the avengers for different reasons, are all looked at as lesser for being powerful, without having to be frozen in ice, or be a genius, or be a god.
"Firestar, one of my long time faves suffers from the disadvantage of being the only mutant to suffer from the negative effects of her own power. having received cancer, and being rendered infertile by her own radioactivity, Firestar has been given this suit which channels out her radiation, and protects her from herself. her should armor functions as an exhaust system to expunge radioactive gasses that have been rendered harmless by the suit. Her gloves have holes in them so that she can channel her fire out though the palms of her hands.
"Namor, King of Atlantis is notoriously arrogant and that can be illustrated by his wearing panties all of the time or a deep V. his scanty armor over his lower back are made from the finest golds, the rarest of Atlantian green metals, and silver vibranium from the mines of Wakanda. His gold adorned foot wraps allow for more foot exposure to ensure more dynamic underwater maneuverability.
"Beast functions as one of the many MEGA BRAINS who work with the Avengers. but his powers are much more varied. he is an advanced and skilled gymnast, and this long pant singlet allows for him to maneuver more freely. His color choices were also an attempt at separating him from his roots as a blue and yellow X-Man.also, he is reading Shakespeare on his APad.
"Storms hair is so starkly odd from what we expect to see from an African American woman, there is no reason not play with it more; here she has a asymmetrical Rihanna style shave job. and her all black costume serves to enhance her aerodynamics. Varied gadgets can be found on her wrist and fore arm panels, and her breast plate is stark white to match her accessories and uncannily white hair.
"Wiccan is the gay teen son of the Scarlet Witch, and grandson of Magneto, and all that together is a healthy heaping of complicated. His head piece is meant to remind us of who his family is, and where he comes from. A click away from mutant royalty, Billy here is embracing it with his Magneto/Which shaped headpiece, his long gloves, and for a splash of modern teen, ridiculously cute shoes. I stayed with a lot of the similar colors here because Billy is so young he has very little historical colors to run away from."
"Ms. Marvel: This costume is based around her own original costume and the original Captain Marvel's second costume.
"Thor: This is based around Thor's original costume. The "V" area of his costume forms the cape front, and I have tweaked the helmet, too.
"Falcon: This is mostly just juggling around elements of the Falcon's mainstay costume, the main change being that I decided to give him a controllable 'glider-cape' instead of the traditional wings.
"Black Panther: I wanted to adapt the mask/cowl so that you could see his face. I've kept the costume pretty simple and clean- just adding some ribbing texture to make the suit a bit more durable looking and added some gold highlights at the claws.
"Wonder Man: This is based around his black red costume. I added an energy release point in the chest area of the V top."
"Captain Marvel: I based this on the newly announced uniform, but gave it more of a flight/dive suit feel to it."
"Black Widow: I just wanted to give her a dress based on her normal uniform, something like an Avenger's cocktail dress with subtle logos on her arm, leg and shoes.
"Iron Woman / Jocasta: I sort of mashed up some characters, mostly I wanted to have an Iron robot. This design is somewhat of the classic look for an Iron Man suit, the pointy face and simple features, I turned the center chest piece into an oval and gave it that pinkish purple electric glow that Jocasta has in her eyes. She is bigger than other designs to imply that she uses Pym Particles and acts as three or more avengers at once.
"Quake: A simple design, jeans and a top that look like a S.H.I.E.L.D uniform. I simplified the gauntlets and made gloves with smaller mechanicals on them."
"Left-to-Right: Vision, Ms. Binary (Ms. Marvel w/ Binary's powers), Photon, Wasp and Ant-Man."
